Why Spend More Money On OEM Cartridges When You Can Save Money On Compatible Ink Cartridges?

Buying Original Ink Cartridges can prove to be very expensive over the long run. Infact most branded printers actually cost less to buy than the Ink Cartridges themselves, however this no longer needs to be the case. Compatible Ink Cartridges are the solution in helping you cut your printer costs with saving of up to 80% at many online stores.

How is this possible you may ask. We'll because online retailers don't have the same costs to pay out as the costs involved in running a storefront they can afford to retail products at competitive prices.

See How Alternative Inks Can Save you Hundreds Each Year On Ink Cartridge Supplies.

Branded Ink Cartridges cost 15 to 25 pounds each ( sometimes more ) from any high street retailer costing you anything from £780 to £1300 pounds each year, if you were to use only one cartridge each week.

As you can see this works out to be quite an expensive commitment over the period of 12 months, money I imagine would be well spent else where.

Have you ever wondered which type of Ink is used in Printer Ink Cartridges?

Well there are three main forms of Ink- 1) Liquid Ink 2) Powder Ink 3) Wax Ink

Liquid ink is found in Printer Ink Cartridges and pens. Then there's powder ink that can be found in laser toner cartridges. The printer heats the ink first before applying to the page. Once the ink has cooled it is then adhered to the paper. And finally there is wax ink which is used in Xerox printers. They look very similar to coloured candles, which the printer then melts before spraying onto the page.

Why should I use Compatible Printer Ink Cartridges you may ask?

Printer Ink Cartridges are very expensive to purchase from any of today's high street stores, being the most expensive part of owning and running a computer system. At Alternative Inks we can save you money on compatible and remanufactured ink cartridges without the hassle of having to leave the comfort of your home. Our range compatible ink cartridges are cheaper and in many cases have more actual usable ink.

How many pages can I print with Compatible Printer Ink Cartridges?

Original Printer Ink Cartridges are programmed in such a way to only print a set number of pages before the Ink runs out and the cartridge is ready to be replaced, despite the fact that the cartridge may still contain more ink. Because compatible Printer Ink Cartridges print until they are empty you often get more pages than you would with an original cartridge.

How Should I Dispose Of My Printer Ink Cartridges?

Whatever you do you must not throw away your empty ink cartridges in the trash bin. Not only will you save thousands of pounds you will be preventing the planet we live on today from being badly polluted.

Firstly, you have the choice of using ink cartridge refill kits rather than disposing of your old cartridges and purchasing another one. You will find that they are extremely cost effective so there's no need to worry about additional costs. Simply refill the cartridge prior to it drying out. All you have to do is carefully follow the instructions which you will find is quick and easy. An additional bonus to yourself by using this method is that you don't have to go to the shop every time your cartridge runs out.

Another option you have is to use a recycling company who will gladly dispose of the cartridge for you. If you look around on the web you will find that some companies will either buy your used cartridges off you or give you discounts in exchange of your used cartridges. They then simply remanufacture your old ink, clean it, refill it and use it again before selling it on. It's a win win situation! The process doesn't involve melting your old cartridge so you are also doing your bit for the planet at the same time, how cool is that. It is an eco- friendly method of disposing your old cartridge which also saves you money at the same time.

And finally, If you do end up disposing off your own used Ink Cartridges please try to do it an environmental friendly way, after all the planet is the responsibility of all of us. Cartridges are made up of nothing other than plastic and harmful chemicals. When we dispose of our ink cartridges incorrectly they release hazardous fumes with nasty consequences on our health and to our planet. You and I can help protect our planet by simply choosing to recycle our unwanted cartridges, so please do use the option of recycling. If everyone were to recycle in our day to day life's we will dramatically reduce poisonous waste generated from materials likes plastics and chemicals. If you do dispose of your empty ink cartridges in the garbage can Alternative Inks urges you to take a minute and reconsider.

Refilling Your Compatible Ink Cartridges

Ok, so you have chosen to do your bit for the planet by refilling your old Compatible Ink Cartridges. When purchasing your refill kit it should come with ink bottles, tape, capes and syringes which usually include air balance clips. As with every thing else in life you get what you pay for so please do spend a little extra for a decent refill kit to ensure you get quality ink. The refill kit will come with full instructions but just in case you have misplaced them there are some brief guidelines below.

  • Firstly get yourself a roll of paper towels as it can be a messy job, and some clear scotch tape. I would advise you to do this task on a large desktop or table.

  • If you have not done so already remove your empty ink cartridge from your printer. You will also need to put some plastic rubber gloves on at this point.

  • Now take a piece of paper towel and fold it in half twice. This is for you to work over so you don't stain your lovely table top or whatever you are using.

  • At this point I advise you to read the instruction manual provided with your particular refill kit as each one may differ slightly.

You Are Now Ready To Begin The Process!

  • Locate the fill holes on the top of the cartridge. (The depressions can be felt by rubbing your finger across the label.)

  • Using a sharp object such as a pencil pierce the refill holes in the top of the ink cartridge. (Correct places can also be found in the kit instructions).

  • Each ink colour (black, magenta, yellow and cyan) will have its own refill hole. The instructions should indicate which colour goes in which hole. Alternatively you can identify them by sticking a toothpick into the holes.

  • Now Insert the long needle from the refill ink bottle into its correct hole.

  • Slowly, add the ink making sure it doesn't overflow.

  • When the Ink Cartridge is fill you will a bit of ink begin oozing out of the hole. As soon as you see this you must quickly stop. Without letting go of the bottle, slowly release the air, sucking a little ink back out of the ink cartridge, before you remove the needle completely

  • Daub the cartridge contacts on the paper towel very carefully, you will see a small drop of the ink leaking out onto the paper towel

  • Now take a small piece of clear scotch tape and cover the hole making sure no ink is leaking out. Be careful not to cross contaminate the colours.

  • You can now repeat all the above steps for each colour.

  • Once all three colours have been filled carefully blot (don't wipe or rub) the cartridge printhead on a folded piece of paper tissue. You may need to do this several times. Do this until it stops bleeding and you see an even stripe of three colours showing up on the towel.

  • If the blot shows the colours either faded or not at all, blot on wet paper towel and again on dry, to get the ink flowing.

  • You are now ready to place your cartridge back into your printer and start printing again.
